I think NA will be realistic in its objectives. The white-bearded and white-turbaned Rabbani, 61, have already declared that he has no intention of trying to hang on to power. He says the Northern Alliance would respect the will of a traditional Loya Jirga -- or grand assembly of tribal elders and faction chiefs -- to decide on a future government. The deposed president, who still holds Afghanistan's U.N. seat, is unpopular even within some factions of the Northern Alliance. Many anti-Taliban groups want exiled king Zahir Shah to head a new regime rather than the ethnic Tajik, Rabbani.

NA also knows well that Kandahar Pushtoons before closing in on Omar are awaiting their political openess and real inclusiveness. TAKE OVER of Kandahar is being delayed as Talebin are convincing the warlords of NA domination. This is understood by hte Allied powers. I don't think anyone forces will leave and I would still predict a broad settlement soon. Everyone is working towards that.
