Talmud makes other hateful statements, so I would avoid going down that road.

1) it wasn't a hateful statement, just a reflection of experience. 2) the Talmud makes myriads of statements of all sorts, it's a huge compendium of the Oral Law. Most of these statements are far from hateful. For example, can you find a corresponding statement to "The righteous of all nations shall have a share in the World to Come" in Christian or Islamic traditions?

If all you know of it is some anti-Semite's picking and choosing 'hateful' quotes, then you don't know what you're talking about.
