The "fundamental" obsession of seasonality is paramount here.

The pricing momentum from October to December is obvious. Either strong up or strong down for the last 12 years is a 70% play. When the bears failed to break this technical snapback, with a little help from AG and PIMCO futures jamming, it set up this self-fulfilling short covering, fund buying ramp.

With a thin trading week, we bears stand little chance of altering the pricing power now. Maybe a pullback next week, Either way, barring another terrorist attack or some other unabomber-type event, the market will move higher through the holidays as a result.

It's actually better, the shorting opportunity developing is as you say, a once in a lifetime event.
