M A R K E T .. S N A P S H O T -- Stocks gird for upside open

NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- Stocks are looking to put on a nice show on Monday as investors ponder a merger in the oil patch as well as more positive developments on the war front.

December S&P 500 futures climbed 7.40 points, or 0.6 percent, and were trading about 8.00 points above fair value, according to HL Camp & Co. And Nasdaq futures added 20.00 points, or 1.3 percent. The Dow Jones Indicative Index erased 1.50 points, or 0.2 percent, to 9,866

Over in the government bond arena, the 10-year Treasury note was up 1/4 to yield ($TNX) 4.83 percent while the 30-year government bond climbed 1/8 to yield ($TYX) 5.265 percent.

Monday will see the release of October housing starts, seen coming in at a 1.53 million rate, as well as building permits.

Among the few other releases due out: September international trade, October leading economic indicators and the October Treasury budget statement. Check economic calendar and forecasts.

In the currency sector, the dollar climbed 0.4 percent to 120.35 yen while the euro erased 0.7 percent to 87.83 cents.
