Reporter hurt as Taliban soldier blows himself up

[note from pb: another big surprise, glad to hear she is OK though]

A reporter covering the war in Afghanistan has been injured when a Taliban soldier blew himself up with a hand grenade.

ITV News correspondent Andrea Catherwood was hit in the knee by a piece of flying shrapnel in Mazar-e-Sharif.

She was with Northern Alliance soldiers in a Red Cross compound where they were taking in Taliban soldiers who had surrendered.

An ITN spokeswoman said: "She is not in danger. She received medical treatment and is filing a report for the news this evening. One of the Taliban soldiers pulled out a hand grenade and blew himself up."

"Andrea was about 10 yards away and caught a piece of flying shrapnel in the knee."

Plans are being made to move her out the area as soon as possible, she added.
