Ah. I see. That is where we differ. I think that history has shown that putting my faith in my fellow Americans is not only a good bet, but a smart one as well.

IMO faith in the people of this country is no more warranted than faith in the
people of any other country. The people in this country merely have the good
fortune to live in a huge country that has a hegemony in it's hemisphere.


We disagree here.

People are formed by their culture, their institutions, their history. I put more faith in people raised in a democratic, basically law-abiding culture with fundamental respect for human rights than in those raised in autocratic cultures where the rule of law is fundamentally lacking. I think we are more likely to come up with right solutions to world problems.
