Composites are often much stronger than metals.

Ok, question for the engineer types
-When a layered material, such as the composites used in the vert stabs of the Airbus 300 or plywood, or skis, breaks, does the material generally break cleanly or does the side opposite the side where the force is applied, either bend or break at a different point?
