Aren't just about ALL of them doing this in order to get that next 10% functionality?>> The only time i upgraded or needed to was when window 95 came out. it was a very good product and msft was justly rewarded by huge sales. after that, i upgraded because of 1. constant crashing of windows 98 that eventually just gave out so i bought a new pc, 2. the company i work with had a more advanced office suite than i did so i was FORCED to upgrade to have compatible word and excel files. to this day, and i am extremely mad, i cannot receive graphs or some excel files from some customers because incompatability issues. so, to answer your question, i have not ugraded because of any benefits (i.e., except for 95) but because of features that msft has included in newer versions that make my system obsolete. to date, msft has gotton away with these tactics but i learned at an early age that you sell benefits and not features. msft has, imo, has only added features. lastly, some claim, that xp will not crash and that is a benefit. it has taken six years and numerous upgrades to get here. don't make me puke! rocky.
