man, that is a long-assed article but a great one

frank, that is a Very Good article you referenced in the atlantic. to be redundant the link is below. i just finished it (it is long.). for a precis of the whole thing i suggest everyone read the next-to-the-last paragraph to decide if you want to read the entire article.

i also liked this quote from the article a lot. "The Constitution is about controlling authority; throughout Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the formerly communist world the difficulty is to establish authority. "

Frank,
Excellent article on Samuel Huntington and the Clash of Civilizations. Kaplan said so much more fluently, and at much greater length, what I was struggling to communicate to the thread after the 9-11 incident and at various threads in the years before that tragedy.

That was also one of the longest posts I've ever seen on SI, ggg, but I very much appreciate your posting it. Also the Tribune article on deflation was very interesting.

You do an excellent job of finding great gems of info to post on this thread and make a tremendous effort and contribution to the success of this forum.

Thanks for doing that,

Roebear
