We are like the hamsters that roll across the floor inside a ball. Except that we are on the outside of our ball, the earth. Somehow we keep our balance as earth rotates once each and every day, while simultaneously journeying around the sun. Both of us are constantly hurtling through space at the speed of light as the universe expands, carrying with it our planet, our solar system, galaxy, and you and me. We haven't the faintest idea where we are going, or why. We never think to look out the window to see where our incredible trip may be taking us. We haven't a clue as to how this all started, except that maybe once upon a time there was a "Big Bang." If there was "nothing" before this bang, we can't imagine what "nothing" means. If there is some end to our trek, we can't fathom how that can be, any more then we can fathom how there could never be an end to it. We don't even know if any of this is real. I think I am real, but I don't know about you. You could be just a prop in some kind of existence that revolves around me alone. Maybe each time I leave "Boston," it is all dismantled and stored back in the wings, until I come back and it is put together again for my benefit. Or maybe both of us and our universe, are just toys in some kind of game that was given to "a child" of a species beyond our imagination, for Christmas. Maybe when he finally tires of playing with us, we will both just disappear forever. If it makes you happy, I will say that the beliefs of the Tunga people don't make sense to me. I find them amusing, too. But I find your life, and mine, not to make any sense either. Here are the two of us (maybe) being whisked through space at millions of miles per hour, utterly clueless as to where we going, what we are, how we came to be, why we are, or who we are. Indeed, I find it hard not to laugh out loud about the absolute absurdity of both our lives. JC
