I understand the perspective of Osama, as I have heard it preached for several years (I just don't happen to agree with it). Martyrdom is a glorious and positive goal in life for Osama. He has sacrificed a life of comfort and material success to seek this goal. He is convinced that his cause is just. He will either be the Khalifa of the world or become a dead martyr trying. To assume that he fears either outcome is a big mistake; he welcomes either one. He is not afraid of death at all. The only thing that you could do to make him fear death would be to first convince him that he will go to hell for the innocent blood he is responsible for. The publicity of his death is likely to be an inspiration for his followers, at least the ones who are truly committed in his cause. Our situation may even become more challenging for a time. Apparently his cause is pretty intrenched in various places. In any event his (imminent)death will settle the matter of Osama for the living.

It would help us all to have a clear understanding of who our enemy is. I do not expect to see him make the cowards plea for mercy from his enemy, as Bill suggests.

To target innocents as a military strategy against your enemy is an awful sin, and this is my issue against Osama. One that I believe we too are guilty of BTW. If Osama merely wanted to create a Unity of Arab nations or Unity of Islamic people I would probably have been supportive. I believe it is possible without making the West an enemy in the process. Osama made the same mistake that other corrupt Empire builders have made throughout history when he targeted the problems as external. "If you seek the kingdom of heaven look within" (Jesus) "If you want to know where the devil will come from pay close attention to the foot prints leading to the chair in which you are now seated." (Ram Das) Note: Quotes may not be exact...its a memory thing and I don't feel like researching it.

We are now considering our place in Middle Eastern politics from a much more ideal and just perspective. I have been very impressed with Collin Powel's involvement. Like it or not this is a positive turn of events and one that is directly related to the evil attack on the WTC. God works in mysterious ways. The world may infact become a better place to live as a result of Osama's misguided war.

Have Peace
