In just a few weeks the next earnings warnings and 'guidance and visibility' and season will begin. Uncertainty and fear of an earnings miss by the stock that people are loading up right now will be that much greater at these new PE levels. Sell off into the earnings season will be dramatic, all the way down to 1650 in my opinion. From there, we will get better visibility into the future; how will the companies that figure prominently in a recovery perform. That will be judgement day of this recession and the accompanying bear market.

Soros, that post is very rational, and frankly, it was as rational two months ago where my turnips gave a "buy signal" and will probably be still be rational a month or six weeks from now, when I expect the turnips to give another buy signal. Unfortunately (or fortunately), valuation is not the only metrics determining stock prices, expectations, psychology, fear and greed all have greater impact on prices. Valuation metrics will eventually come back to the norm, but until that happens, a lot of water will flow to the oceans, and that may happen more from earnings growth over the next decade than from general price declines much below last September levels, IMTO.
