Your view of the scouts is seriously screwed up! I can only assume you've never had children. And especially not had sons.

The scouts are a wonderful organization where children build character, learn skills like safe camping, boating, etc. and bond with their fathers in an atmosphere of caring fun.

res- It'a always been my observation that they were nothing but a little paramilitary organization, ie olive drab or tan uniforms, emblems, ranks, badges, dens, troops, survival skills, etc...

You sound kind of prejudice JF. That is kind of close minded of you.

Dear JF: You need to learn a lot more about scouting. To call it a paramilitary organization is prepostorous. Scouting teaches youths (male and female) (young and older) what we as a Nation generally consider good qualities, such as honesty, leadership, ability to stand on ones own feet and many skills that even a 2 parent family often has forgotten anymore let alone a single parent family often with that parent being a woman. As Karen said in a post to me, the alternative to scouting especially in the poorer neighborhoods is the GANGS.
I was in scouting all of my formative years and personally I cannot think of a single bad experience or a single thing I learned that I would not want my son to know. JDN
