TENSIONS ARISE WITH IRAQ AMID INC DISPUTE November 19, 2001

The Middle East Newsline reports: “Tensions continue to rise between Iraq and the United States. The tensions stem from concerns in Baghdad that Washington plans to expand its war against terrorism to the regime led by Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. Another source of tension concerns the deployment of Iraqi troops near Kuwait and Turkey.
On Saturday, Iraq reported firing surface-to-air missiles against British and U.S. warplanes. The Iraqi News Agency said the combat jets were patrolling the no-fly zone in southern Iraq.

‘Enemy aircraft overflying the provinces of Basra, Zi Qar and Muthanna fled back to their bases in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait under anti-aircraft artillery and missile fire,’ INA quoted a military spokesman as saying. Iraq has rejected the no-fly zones…”
