OHD, I hear you. We have an excellent model for the world to emulate. The middle east is a quagmire if there ever was one. I think the administration is doing a great job in fighting the war.

'ridiculously idealistic and naive', my you do know how to sweet talk a guy. I give my country credit for solving most of the inequalities inside our borders. we need to even up education some more, but overall good job. We also should get some credit for western Europe (solved the nazi culture thing), eastern Europe (that commie thing) and soon the whole of north Asia. I am naive enough to believe Mexico under Fox is coming around. Yupper, idealistic is us. The jury's still out on ridiculous and naive.
To me, it is way more credible to do our laundry in public that to be revisionist. Democracy is a process, not a trophy. Our greatness was on display in the messy last election: did anyone really fear a coup? With all the marbles on the table did anyone even think about ordering martial law? We ordered pizza. Transparency in government. Transparency in history, you sound almost wishing for a politically correct history? My Lai (sp?) is another bright spot: did we shirk the bright light? We squirmed, but you would rather cover it up? Mistakes will be made, will we learn from them or hide them determines our character. And provides the example the world needs to see. In my opinion of course.
