I have never asked you not to post to me.

SI does not apply a "not to or about" rule unless good reason is shown. If I proposed that you and I be prohibited from posting to each other, the request would be refused, of course.

There are a number of problems with the Ignore feature. It does not provide protection from some nasty idiot with an obsession (and I'm not talking here about Christopher) posting all the hell over various things about you including stuff he or she invented or distorted and you don't have the time to rebut one by one. W/o the to-or-about rule, your only defense then is to hide your eyes with the Ignore feature. This is hardly satisfactory if one is being repeatedly calumniated or even stalked. Additionally, the Ignore feature doesn't disappear the posts, it simply gives a "This post is ignored" message. And then only if you don't use ten-at-a-time. If you use that, you read the post.

It is rare, I believe, that anyone asks for that protection from SI, and rarer still that it is granted, and I agree with you that that is as it should be, on contentious public forums. And it should never be granted to squelch "ideas," of course. (Unless the idea is, for example, one such as that another poster derided young soldiers like someone's son, when such a thing never happened; in that case, it would have been a good thing had the protection not be rescinded, imo.)

But sometimes it is the best available solution to a real problem.
