As if you merit a lie? What an exaggerated sense of your own importance. I congratulate you for admitting the origin of your misconception about planting time for daffodils being already past, but I didn't really recommend planting daffodils as a sourve of ego gratification (you ego masturbate enough, I'd say) or of scoring "excellent results" but rather as a Zen activity, a diversion which might prove emotionally beneficial. Path vs. destination, y'know?

That aside, and speaking as an expert, I wouldn't follow fastidiously the protocol of the commercial propagatr without grasping the intent, which may be quite different from a hobbyist's. The grower may manipulate the planting periods to extend yield dates, to produce for Valentine's and Mother's Days markets when demand and prices are higher, or to extend vegetative growth periods to increase size (grade) of bulbs for sale to the consumer who will force it the following year.
