Jan, delighted to see you back! Your timing is, as ever, impeccable. As for wine, well, a subject dear to my heart! I shall assume turkey is the primary meal, and recommend accordingly.

White: Sauvignon Blanc or Viognier. The latter is not well-known but superb. Wineries include: Beringer; Cline; Eberle (to die for!). Almost anything costing 10 or more is good. This is a french import but I find the french versions overpriced viv-a-vis California viognier.

Sauvignon Blanc: the value special is Geyser Peak. Dollar for dollar the best value in S Blanc. markham is also excellent. There are many good ones to choose from. it's the grape that counts!

Chardonnay-- too buttery with turkey. There are some clean ones out there but this is a boring choice.

Red: Pinot Noir is the red of choice. Perfect with turkey. There are so many to recommend. Try Oregon pinots. Washington State also has some great pinots. You can drink a French Burgandy (made from the pinot grape) but they are just not worth it (my opinion, of course!).

For champagne: rose. I recommend Veuve Clicquot

A final choice for those who wish something "raw"-- beaujolais. It's not for everyone, but now IS the season!

Bon apetit
