1:08PM Oct Book-to-Bill Preview : -- Before Open -- UBS Warburg, CSFB, and Salomon Smith Barney offer their takes on the Oct book-to-bill (B:B) data to be released after the close today. UBS Warburg expects B:B to range from 0.65-0.7 and adds that demand for cap equip is not improving. CSFB estimates a flat B:B in the 0.63-0.67 range and stresses their belief that underperformance [by the sector] is likely in 1H02; market performance likely in 2H02. Salomon Smith Barney looks for a 0.75 B:B with emphasis on better back-end numbers [moving up 3% to $95 mil] and moderately better front-end numbers [from $546 to $553 mil].

ST - Trading FWIW, I'm back in with an AMAT short play here at $37.50 (2000 shares). I missed the little bounce there was and believe we're going still lower.
