IS THIS THE PRECURSOR OF THE FALL OF SADDAM?
I find it hard to believe he wasnt involved in 9-11

PENTAGON BUILDS CASE ON IRAQ November 21, 2001

USA Today reports: “Defense Department strategists are building a case for a massive bombing of Iraq as a new phase of President Bush's war against terrorism, congressional and Pentagon sources say. Proponents of attacking Iraq, spearheaded by Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz, are now arguing privately that still-elusive evidence linking Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein's regime to the terrorist attacks Sept. 11 is not necessary to trigger a military strike.
In Geneva Monday the United States said it strongly suspects Iraq of building up a germ warfare program, but stopped short of saying that country might supply biological weapons to Osama bin Laden's terrorist network. ''The United States strongly suspects that Iraq has taken advantage of three years of no U.N. inspections to improve all phases of its offensive biological weapons program,'' said John R. Bolton, undersecretary of state for arms control. ''The existence of Iraq's program is beyond dispute.'…”

Knesset Remembers Pollard

The Knesset is holding a special session this morning on the 16th anniversary of Jonathan Pollard’s incarceration, at the request of MK Michael Kleiner (Herut). Speakers from across the political spectrum will address the Knesset and special guests, each demanding that the U.S. release Pollard. In addition, former Chief Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu will deliver a Torah lecture this evening in the Yeshurun Synagogue in Jerusalem. The lecture is the third in a year-long series of monthly Torah lectures on behalf of Jonathan Pollard, sponsored by the 'Committee to Bring Jonathan Home' of the Israeli Action Alliance.

3 Palestinians killed in IDF strike near Nablus in West Bank

By Amos Harel, Ha'aretz Correspondent, Ha'aretz Service and agencies

Three Palestinian activists were killed Friday night when IDF helicopters fired at least two missiles on a car next to the village of Kfar Farah, close to the West Bank city of Nablus.

Two of the dead have been identified as Hamas activists, Mahmoun Rashid Hashaika, and his brother, Ahmed, from the village of Tallouza near Nablus. Palestinian sources said that the third man could be Mahmoud Abu Hanoud, who is on Israel's most-wanted list.

Israeli sources said that Hanoud was the apparent target of the strike, but Palestinian officials could not confirm that he was among the dead. Mahmoud Azahar, a senior Hamas activist in the Gaza Strip, told Abu Dhabi Television after the attack that Hanoud was still alive.

The IDF declined to comment on the incident. Nablus governor Mahmoud al-Aloul said the killing was a "new crime" by Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. "It is clear that Sharon insists on the continuation of his aggression and... in aborting all the attempts to cool down the conflict," he told Reuters.

DPA reported that two of the militants were killed immediately and the third was shot dead from the helicopter as he tried to escape the scene.

Man killed, 3 hurt by IDF fire; 2 Fatah men die in 'work accident'
One person was killed and three were seriously wounded in the Gaza Strip on Friday night when IDF troops opened fire on their vehicle at the Rafah checkpoint near the border with Egypt, Israel Radio reported.

The dead man was the driver of the vehicle, a taxi that was carrying seven passengers. The three wounded, who all sustained head injuries, were passengers in the cab.

A spokesman for the IDF said that the vehicle had failed to slow down as it approached the checkpoint and that the soldiers signaled for the car to slow down and then fired warning shots into the air. When the car did not reduce its speed after the warning shots were fired, the soldiers, fearing that the car contained a bomb, opened fire on the vehicle, which then turned around and drove away.

Two Fatah activists were killed ealier Friday evening by an explosion in the Nablus area of the West Bank, Palestinian sources said. The French news agency reported that the explosion occurred close to the village of Beit Iba, in an area under Israeli security control.

A Palestinian source said that the two were killed during an attempt to build an explosive device.

The men, both aged 21, have been named as Mohammed Salam Samani and Mohammed Ibrahim Samani.

Six Palestinians sustained light-to-moderate injuries Friday during clashes with IDF troops at the Ayosh Junction next to the West Bank city of Ramallah. The clashes occurred when dozens of Palestinians took part in a march organized by the leadership of the intifada on the way to Friday prayers at the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.

When the marchers reached the junction, some began to throw stones and Molotov cocktails at IDF soldiers and Border Police stationed there. The troops responded, using rubber-coated bullets and tear gas to clear the crowd.

Mortar falls on home in Gaza settlement
A mortar landed on a home in the Neve Dekalim settlement in the Gaza Strip on Friday morning. None of the occupants of the house were injured, although the building sustained some damage.

Earlier Friday, IDF troops and Border Police troops searched Kibbutz Eyal near the West Bank city of Qalqilyah following a breach in the security fence around the kibbutz. Security sources said that two men had infiltrated the kibbutz during the night, and the IDF was concerned that they had planted an explosive device. The infiltrators apparently left the kibbutz and a search of the area found nothing.

Arafat's Fatah setting up suicide squad in Jenin

Friday November 23 2001

Activists of Fatah's military wing in Jenin have established a "suicide unit" in order to carry out terror attacks in Israel.

Security sources said yesterday that the unit is named after Nazir Hamed, the Fatah activist responsible for the shooting in the Afula bus station this October, in which one woman soldier and two civilians were killed and dozens wounded.

Security officials say Fatah is refraining from terror attacks using bombs within the Green Line, but has unreservedly violated its past taboo against suicide attacks or attacks within the Green Line.

According to the sources, Fatah's current preferred method of action is attacking civilians by opening fire inside Israeli cities.

In August, Ali Al Julani, a resident of East Jerusalem affiliated with the Fatah movement, shot soldiers and civilians near the Kirya army base in Tel Aviv.

A dozen Israelis were lightly wounded in the attack, and Julani was killed by a passing policeman.

Security officials said yesterday that the Shin Bet has arrested a Fatah activist from the Jenin area, on suspicion of involvement in suicide bombings in Israel.

The detainee, 22-year-old Sadel Tahaineh, confessed to placing a bomb in a settlement in Wadi Ara. The bomb was activated by a cellular phone but didn't cause harm.

Tahaineh admitted in his interrogation that he had planned additional bombing and shooting attacks in the Wadi Ara region.

At the time of his arrest, Tahaineh was involved in a plan to plant a booby-trapped car in Zichron Ya'akov.

However, the Fatah activist who was supposed to drive the car into the town was killed along with two Fatah military-wing leaders when the car they drove in was bombed in Jenin.
