Yes, but the dream type of revelation is not that uncommon. It is also suspect. The dreams of messengers went unquestioned but when the rest of us have a dream there is the question of whether it is the normal wish fulfillment type of dream or whether it is divinely revelatory. Even if it is a revelatory dream that doesn't qualify him as a prophet in any other sense and it doesn't authorize any of his actions as righteously supported by God. A prophet is not necessarily a messenger. A prophet may be given information that fortells a coming event but no message for human beings about their condition. If his dream truly fortells his continuance in power unto his death, that tells the others vying for power with in his company to stand down, and nothing more.

I see people wake up from a bad dream and call home to see if granny died or something. If not, they go back to sleep and forget about it. If granny died or is ill they claim it was a revelatory dream. Who knows... I know that it is a pretty safe prediction that most of our grannies will have illness from time to time.

I predict Mullah Omar will be dead soon.

"The point is he is claiming that God is talking to him personally."

Ah, I think I just got it. Sorry for being so slow.

If a Christian recieves a communication from God at any level they would be thought of as saintly. These kinds of dreams are considered fairly common place in Islam for pious believers and can even be a wake up call (pun) for people who need it. A dream like this, all by itself, would not raise the status of a religious person to Prophethood.
