My advice on computer building is to do the following:

1) Decide what processor you want - AMD or Intel;
2) Research and buy a good motherboard for the processory you select;
3) Buy memory from Crucial.com (Micron). You can match the memory to the MB.
4) Install name brand peripherals - SEG or IBM harddrive, etc.
5) Get a good video card. ATI or one with a Nvdia chip are good.

Shouldn't have too many problems if you match the memory to the MB and if you use name brand products.
