HP Receives `Best Computer Retailer Website' Award from Web Marketing Association
HPshopping.com Wins Fourth Consecutive WebAward
PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 20, 2001--Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE:HWP - news) today announced that its online retailer, hpshopping.com, has been named the ``Best Computer Retailer Web Site'' by the Web Marketing Association (WMA).

HPshopping.com, which offers consumers a complete selection of HP home and home office products at hpshopping.com, ranked highly in every judging category, including design, innovation, content, technology, interactivity, navigation and ease of use.

This year's title follows previous WebAwards from the WMA for ``Standard of Excellence'' and ``Outstanding Website.'' The WMA was founded in 1997 to help set a high standard for Internet marketing and corporate Web development and is the producer of the WebAwards, an annual competition designed to judge corporate Web sites against an Internet standard and against peer sites within their industry.

``HPshopping.com's continued success in the WebAwards competition is a testament to our commitment to providing our customers the best online service possible,'' said Susan Boyce, chief marketing officer, hpshopping.com. ``HP strives to offer customers the highest quality customer experience from product selection to delivery and is honored to receive recognition for its efforts for the fourth consecutive year.''

In addition to hpshopping.com's award, HP's Preferred Program Demo (http://www.hp.com/preferredtour) also received a ``Standard of Excellence'' WebAward this year.

Over the past year, the customer experience of hpshopping.com has seen numerous improvements. As a result of extensive usability testing, several features have been added and improved, including a notebook PC configure-to-order tool, enhanced search and product comparison capabilities, a persistent shopping cart that appears on each page the customer visits and a personalized ``My Printing Supplies Store,'' which provides recommendations based on the printers users already own.

HPshopping.com continued its dedication to customer service by instituting a safe-shopping guarantee for credit card purchases and improved e-finance offerings, while also implementing Web chat and reducing the time it takes to checkout. The improvements have made it easier than ever for consumers to find what they need quickly and easily.

With the holidays just around the corner, hpshopping.com is preparing to help customers with their online gift shopping. This season, the site helps customers compare and choose their perfect tech gifts and find great gift ideas for under $250 -- while also featuring a holiday sweepstakes.

That comment was a killer for me. I got stung with a bunch of puts, which I'd held on the basis of his comments.

Anyway, last year was interesting from this personal standpoint (which may be somewhat indicative of behavior this year): I needed a new computer last year and kept looking and looking, and watched prices keep falling. As a result, I've held out until last week. What has happened is a realization that prices may not get higher, but they are unlikely to get lower anytime soon. In addition, I don't think you'll get alot more for the same money in the near future.
The upgrade cycle has been delayed due to economic difficulties, and then extended a bit more due to recent uncertainties. But I think it's about to begin again.
As a result, I (gulp)jumped in and finally purchased a new computer. 1.7 GHz with 128 RDRAM and all the bells and whistles......
Since it's configured to handle 2G RDRAM, I have lots of room to grow and it should last a minimum of 4-5 years. Possibly I'll squeeze another 7 out of it. 7 was a tough enough squeeze with this one (133 MHz PI with 64M RAM).
