RE:"Whine, whine, whine, you want some cheese with it? You have so much whining to do that you can't get it all done on the putrified, I mean purified AMD thread?"

Tony, this is not your style...

Re: Whine, whine, whine, you want some cheese with it?

Bottom line is, AMD's Aluminum .18 Duron keeps up with Intel's Copper .13 Celeron/PIII.

AMD's Copper .18 Athlon significantly outperforms Intel's Aluminum .18 P4.

Both AMD and Intel are currently sampling .13 parts for Q1 of next year (Athlon Thoroughbred and P4 Northwood), but AMD has .13 SOI coming for Q3 of next year - while Intel has no major process improvement coming for 1 1/2 years.

AMD has a new core with a longer pipeline and 64 bits coming out in Q4 of next year - while Intel won't have a new core for many years. The result of the last 5 years of Intel development have been the mediocre P4 and the awful Itanium.

We've seen what Intel has - Intel's new product and process pipeline is now empty, while AMD has significant new process and core improvements coming next year.

Just one more folksy story:

...So I'm in Circuit City tonight. And just for kicks I ask the guy who's helping me, what the "1800 XP" means, figuring I'd get an answer like 1.8Ghz or something, but NOOOOO, the guy says:

This is an advanced machine. It only runs MSXP, not 98 or ME.

Hmmmmmmmmmm, sez I. :)

Must be the law of unintended consequences at work, sez I.
