Rumsfeld has said they have two options, unconditionally surrender or fight.

demanding unconditional surrender is a big step.

it demands a complete, final, and total end to hostilities one way or another.

we are demanding that they willingly and unconditionally subject themselves to the will of their opponents or fight to the death.

it also commits us to fight to the death if they don't surrender. that has additional ramifications. imo it frees us to use every weapon in our arsenal.

it will be precedent setting. as the war on terrorism spreads beyond afghanistan, the standard to be used to measure future success has been set.

as our SEALs say...

"The woods are lovely, dark and deep, and we have miles to go before we sleep."

and...

"The only easy day was yesterday."
