The Nokia Delivery Server will be available to operators and service providers during the fourth quarter, 2001. This doubtless compliments the Nokia 7650 which was launched yesterday and supports downloading of software into the phone. The Nokia Delivery Server is built on open and standardized technologies supporting also recommended practice for the Java MIDP provisioning as specified by Java Community Process, thus it will offer support for content downloading across a wide selection of web, WAP and Java enabled mobile devices. Nokia Delivery Server will offer an end-to-end solution for content downloading: it manages access, selects right content for a mobile device, ensures a reliable delivery and controls charging. The Nokia Delivery Server's user identification mechanisms and extensible charging interfaces support a wide variety of business models from centralized content distribution to ad-hoc service set-up. The Nokia Delivery Server will be able to manage a variety of delivery mechanisms and content types, such as MIDP Java applications, image files, screen savers and music. The server will also be capable of delivering required content by taking into consideration the type of mobile device, ensuring that a subscriber receives the downloadable object best suitable to his/her mobile phone. << - Eric -
