If we knew the future, we could make much better decisions. Yeah. The Afghan war most likely contributed to fall of the Soviet Union. "What do you MEAN you can't beat a fifth-rate, fifth world country?????" In spite of what has happened it may still have been a good thing to do. On the other hand, I was in the nuke business when the US declassified all of the WWII nuke design information [Fat Boy, etc.] from the AEC. I was pretty angry when that occurred. We know that Iran obtained it all and we know that some other folks have gotten their hands on it as well. Yuck! And Amen. Those may be primitive bombs by current standards, but they did kill tens of thousands.
