I wonder on what reliable statistical data the claims of end-of-the-month, pre-holiday, Friday-buy/Monday-sell etc. effects are based? As far as I can remember, a long-term study of such effects documented in a book I would have to dig up (written by a mutual-fund newsletter writer from FL...) showed them to be very weak, perhaps 1-1.5% gain over any other days. Just about hidden in the statistical noise. I think the January effect is much better documented.
