This is CH's original fictional scenario. I posted the link
and bolded the scenario in the summary post I made to you, actually. In it, he says:

The post of Poet's that started all this, back about a month or so ago, made negative inferences about our young men in uniform, which I took personal exception to since (as Poet well knows) my son is serving proudly in the Air Force defending the rights of certain people to continue to think and write what they do.

If it's the term "casting aspersions on" you're looking for, here I ask the question

"Poet never cast any aspersion whatever on our "young men," such as your son, did she?"

Message 16685865

and CH replies, "Yes."

Message 16686046

(That's just one place.)

In my summary post to you I also provided my intuition, which is similar to yours, I see, about what sent CH into the fantasy scenario containing the lie about Poet.

Message 16682698

Here is an excerpt from the above in which I attempt to offer an emotional explanation for CH's continuing disreputable behavior in this matter:

"Maybe you are very worried about your son, and that is a true excuse. It's humanly understandable to wish those who question the wisdom or rightness of your son's choices, and of those of the Commander in Chief, would shut up. You know your son is brave, you believe the cause is just, and you don't want to hear it. I sometimes want people who take the Katha Pollitt/Oliver Stone positions, or variations thereon, to shut up, too.

But for better or worse (worse when it is your particular ox you feel gored by freedom of speech), this is America.

And however upset you are to hear dissent, it doesn't make your claim that "Poet made negative inferences about our young men in uniform" true. It wasn't true. You made it up."

Actually, I don't think you should discontinue taking people to task for calling dissenters traitors. What is overlooked becomes accepted and what is accepted comes to seem normal. Once it is normal in America for dissent to be equated with treason....

The beautiful part of our country's story is over.

"I dislike throwing around the word "traitor..."

What would you see as a greater loss to America; Another 1 million people dead from a terrorist act, new restrictions on human rights that are formed under a terrorist security law; Give California too Mexico, Maine to Canada, Alaska to Russia, Florida To Arabia.
