I just keep asking myself what on earth are they basing this decsion on?

Limmer,

It is indeed hard to understand if you haven't seen it firsthand. At SBC, conclusions are first, then comes research, then justification. This is why you do not see the wCDMA step. It does not justify the already arrived at conclusion.

SBC is another ATT in attitude. Look who they hired to head the company, a politician with political clout.

"Surely there must be some extraordinarily powerful reasons for Cingulars decsion"

I sure would like to know/understand them.

Economies of scale on vaporware?

Or do they perceive they and Europe will never really need UTMS after all and will milk subscribers with capacity consuming tweaks via GSM migration until 4G?

What blows me away is that all the infrastructure biz and its resultant royalties and profits go across the sea to European vendors.

ATT and Cingular sure are patriotic.----NOT

So what are the reasons, beside good old American buy-offs and kickbacks?
