By the way, the Bush administration is thinking about pushing the war into another country

Humans are an interesting mammal. You can look at the Gallup polls in the months prior to Sept 11th at the category of: Do you approve of the direction of the country?

Typical new year euphoria; people are pleased and then the following months oscillate around the majority are approving or unapproving. All in all, it's a short time frame to look at and I'd call it 50/50 with no decisive trend.

Then the next couple of months pass. The World Trade Centers are leveled; a section of the Pentagon is wiped out. We've lost a tad less than 6,000 people killed. We've got anthrax letters zipping about and don't have any good idea who has sent them out. We're worried about smallpox epidemics. Planes are falling out of the sky and crashing into residential areas. We've got the military and/or national guard at airports with automatic weapons. A bunch of airport security personnel that are paid at minimum wage; half of which are foreigners or felons. We've got the national guard supplementing the police force in D.C.. We're throwing people into indefinite detention. Airports, e.g., Atlanta, being evacuated. A newly found awareness of the vulnerabilities of bio-terror and nuclear holocost. A war against terrorism that has no end....there's probably some more...

And now the American people are "approving" at close to 2/3!

I sure hope we don't get to the point where we have 90% approval. Imagine the death and destruction we have to have to get to 90% approval.

We've got to go to war in another country just to keep the approval rate up.

Humans are are odd lot.
