Peace friend. Hope you had a wonderful holiday.

I know this post is a little dated but I wanted to take issue with you over the Iraqi sanction issue. I get the feeling that you do not agree that sanctions should continue. But I also think your exigent circumstances reading is a wrong one. The fact is that the sanctions imposed at the end of the war were set up and specifically designed so that Iraq should have more than enough $$$ to provide for all the basic needs of its citizenry. Instead of using available cash for those purposes, the dictator and his men have chosen to provide themselves with a lavish and opulent lifestyle and to spend wads of cash rebuilding the military and pursuing and developing weapons of mass destruction. I don't think any Administration, including the Clinton Administraton can be blamed for this barbarous policy of the Iraqi leadership. The sanctions should stay in place, weapons inspectors must be readmitted to Iraq immediately and any further provocation in the no-fly zone or aggressive action against our airmen should be met with instantaneous and overwhelming force in response. If Iraq does not comply with all the terms of the surrender, then it is time to remove Hussein for the good of his long suffering victims, the Iraqi people. But unless compliance is complete, the sanctions should stay in place. IMO.
