If by "different slant" you mean a different "angle", I would answer yes to your question. French reporters usually see things differently. Of course, it doesn't mean that their reports are more trustworthy, just that they give a different light. Sometimes it is useful to compare different sources to get a better idea. On this topic, I know what I mean; being a desk editor in a daily newspaper, I do just that every day.
