It is especially important to be pro- American in times of crisis.

I agree with that.

, I have explained that anti- Americanism, in the guise of constructive criticism, has an axe to grind

I get the impression that you consider constructive criticism inherently bogus--that there is no such thing as constructive criticism as distinguished from destructive criticism. I don't buy that.

I agree with you, or I presume that you would agree with me, that it is anti-American to not put one's shoulder to the wheel in times of war once the nation is committed to a course of action, whether or not you agree with that course. Continued complaints about the bombing in Afghanistan I would put in that category.

OTOH, I would not consider it un-American at this time to question going into Iraq. Or thoughtfully evaluate the morality and efficacy of the current restrictions on trade with that country. Criticizing the boycott on al Jazeera would be un-American, but laying out the pros and cons on this board would not. I don't see how thoughtful input to public opinion can be un-American.

Very Nice!

I am curious about how you would've advised an Afghan three months ago. Philosophically how can an Afghan citizen be pro Afghanistan while the only government is the Taliban and they feel they can't support it. Let's say even today this theoretical Afghan does not like what the Northern Alliance stands for, yet they don't want to return to tribal chaos.

Tough question, but you are good at those.
