We are all competent to judge whether Poet cast aspersions on our "young men" as CH has continued to claim, and whether he then rose to their defense, and whether that "started all this." To judge, iow, the truth of his scenario.

We aren't competent to judge CH's state of mind, only to confirm that he made an untrue accusation for some reason known only to him because he won't share it with us.

The only way an ethical judgment of CH's assertion about Poet need be provisional relates to the mitigation his mental or emotional state would provide. You and I both looked for it there, in the idea that, because his son is serving in the military, it very much upset him that Poet defended dissenters from her own pro-military intervention position.

He did not accept this proposal.
