Well PB, you are the first to make me aware of an SI member who is dead. It is a weird feeling. For years I have thought it will be an odd thing to have cyberspace friends who simply disappear one day and they are actually dead.

This is the first SI member I am aware of [I realize there are very many others] who has actually died. It creates some impact on me that the first person I become aware of should have died in my beloved WTC which I have admired since I first saw it in 1975 [as much for what it symolized as the actual physical presence]. It could easily have been me and a daughter when I visited again in 1999.

The world is a very small place and SI [and cyberspace] links us all in an even tighter ball.

Chechnya and Afghanistan probably seemed almost irrelevant to nearly everyone only a few years ago. People are disabused of that notion now.

I don't think I ever 'talked' with Bill Meehan.

I've wondered over the years if anyone would start an "In Memoriam" thread in SI for members who have died. Maybe it exists [I've never looked].

I can't think of a more appropriate 'First Post' in memory of the 'Last Post' of those who will never post again, than one in recognition of Bill Meehan. The New York WTC was not far from Wall Street, which is of course a focal point for SI members.

Osama and co declared war on the world. A New Zealander, [Andrew Beaven, a martial arts exponent] was killed during what was a conflict between the hijackers on the last plane to crash and some of the passengers, [I suppose including Andrew]. SI members [one at least] and people from all around the world were killed.

Once again, Thanksgiving Thank You to those who are instrumental in putting an end to Osama and others who use their might to assert their will over other people, to confiscate their property and circumscribe their lives.
