Is there any information on the original costs for the Playstation and/or playstation 2?

Do some digging in your favorite search engine or financial publication and you'll find lots of stories, especially around last year's US introduction of the PS2.

Very similar to Xbox pricing.

Sony lost money on every PSII sold. But, they make an absolute fortune in games sales and game royalties.

It's a huge profitable business for Sony, and it looks like it will work out to be similar situation for MSFT. Breakeven is down the road a ways, but when it comes, watch the profits roll in.

IMO,
