TLC,

good to see that you have Lucked Out for yet another Thanksgiving celebration. Some year, alas, someone will figure out that tasting like chicken is almost as good as tasting like turkey, and, well, it will have been good knowing ya....

We should thank the noble Ish for keeping the lamp lit at DAR, when most everyone else had run off hither and yon. Maybe if we bring in a few kegs and lots of the Orange Food Group (Cheetohs, etc), we can lure back some of the comics who graced this thread. If not, screw them and the camel who...

Sorry. I got carried away.

You've said a beakful here, Mr. Mighty Chicken. Sometimes, I go back and read early posts on this thread and a few other threads from the SI Golden Era. What can I say, the more things change, the more they change, or something like that.

Dear TLC,

How nice of you to stop by for a little Thanksgiving visit- and courageous of you, too, to venture into our country on a day when a flightless feathered avian is not the safest form to have.

However, most of us now are sated and immobilized so this is a good time to sit among us and chat without fear of becoming tetrazzini.
Yes, there has been some extraordinary writing among the SI population-- here, and at Feelies, and at off-shoot threads. There are still people around who are wonderful writers, but they are interspersed among a lot of threads-- so large has SI grown-- and are not gathered in one place. How lucky for us that, for a time at least, so many managed to convene here. But there were also people who came by, lurked briefly, decided we were a bunch of nuts and moved on. Or they tried to change us, twist the thread in a direction that suited them better- show us the error of our flighty, airhead ways. Or they saw us as elitist snobs. (that one I never understood). DAR wasn't for everyone.

Still here we are, standing the test of time, a little grizzled and arthritic, but still friendly and nice. Even if we're not as wildly creative as a few years ago, I think it's an accomplishment that DAR has managed, in a time of moderated threads and uncontrolled and destructive posting, to still be a kind place.

You are looking well, by the way. A little plumper perhaps. hmm- 450 pounds-- 15 minutes a pound....
