>>I get the impression that the spiritually haughty come in for a lot heavy criticism<<

That's my impression, too. He'd have a field day these days. Maybe in every age. I know I got a little carried away with being impressed by the gray-haired man, but it was such a breath of fresh air. His knowledge of other peoples and ways as much as anything.

I went to a bookstore today and didn't find anything I had on my list but in addition to The Best of Lewis Carroll (on sale for 8 bucks, how could I not?), I came away with "The Professor and the Madman", which I've wanted to read for a long time. Now if I can just read it without getting coffee stains on it before I give it away for Christmas.

and... "Ethics for the New Millennium" by the Dalai Lama. And "The Seekers" by Daniel Boorstin. I wish he had included more eastern and other things, but it looks quite interesting.
