>>If you're going to take a shot at goliath, you'd better finish him off, not just piss him off.<<

Karen, he (and his network)have in fact taken many shots at Goliath, with relative impunity.

I would particularly note the 1993 WTC attack.

Apparently we weren't sufficiently pissed at the time.

There are troops still stationed in Saudi Arabia; there are ships in the Persian Gulf and the eastern Mediterranean; there are NATO bases in Turkey and Greece; there are, presumably, supply routes into Israel, Egypt, and other states we patronize. All of them might be legitimate targets against our interests in the region.

Lay aside impatience. One gains no ground whatsoever through terror. After all this time, how far have the Palestinians gotten? Were it not that the situation has to be resolved in some manner eventually, and humanity prevents the Israelis from slaughtering or permanently driving the Palestinians out, things could be much worse. As it is, any act of terror favors hardliners, like Sharon. It is a stupid strategy, and therefore doubly horrific, because pointless. Not only that, but Arab terrorists are particularly vile, targeting school buses and such. Thus, they are likelier to case immense hatred, and a determination to exterminate them, then debilitating fear.

Why engage in such vile, stupid, futile, counter- productive behavior? Because it is the easiest way of striking at one's opponent. It reduces the need for infrastructure and manpower, command and control, and avoids direct engagement, by allowing diffuse actions by cells that know little about any other cells, or the command. It permits the illusion of making a grand gesture while doing nothing to further the cause.

That is why I took the side of those who call bin Laden a coward........
