>>BTW, I did notice the absence of black and white thinking in your labeling the hijackers as brave<<

Then I will depart this conversation with the acceptance that you indeed do insist upon trivializing the Osama as Coward argument.

Finis.

bin Laden sure was a dork in the 70s

And he probably is a lousy dancer. Notice how awkward he is with this chick's arm around him. Andrew Sullivan thinks he might be gay.

It was a list of arbitrarily brainstormed negative characteristics to see if I could prompt anyone in the coward camp to acknowledge anything positive about him at all.

I think that OBL is intelligent, tall, charismatic and clearly has a way with the babes. Heck I could only attract one woman to marry me to his four. Does that satisfy you that I wouldn't apply any description that has a negative connotation?

Partly because, for some reason I don't understand, it's absolutely essential to some people on the coward side of this argument that that particular word be applied, seemingly whether it fits or not, to the point of ridiculing those who don't agree.

This part shows your bias Karen. There was very clear ridiculing by the anti-coward crowd on more than one occasion. I don't believe that either side of the argument has stood on higher ground than the other WRT to this.

Concur. Both are good examples of courage. Perhaps we should suggest Webster use them. <g> BTW, I did notice the absence of black and white thinking in your labeling the hijackers as brave.

Oh good, since my first post on the topic covered this point, it is clear that you don't have me in the black/white camp.

His value is in his leadership, funding, and strategic planning, I would assume, not as cannon fodder.
He could have been in one of those planes, Karen.

Instead of using his wealth and influence to convince stooges to do his dirty work.

But I don't see bravery or cowardice as being anywhere near the core of this matter.

He is EVIL. His intent is to touch off a War of Civilizations- -which most likely, if successful, would result in the death of BILLIONS. The World Wars to this point would look like street fights in comparison.
