Sweden: <<only 700 permits to build radio base stations.>>

Broadband roll-out gets under way
Di Nov 23, 2001 - One year after the Swedish National Post and Telecom Agency (PTL) allocated four licenses for wireless broadband - so-called 3G networks - the firms which won licendes have only applied for only 700 permits to build radio base stations.
To meet the timeline for the establishment of service mandated by the PTS, the companies would have to seek 300-350 building permits per month.
"I am a little bit surprised. I thought they would have made more progress," says PTS director Gunnar Billinger.
The license winners are required to offer 99.98 percent of the population access to the 3G mobile phone service by the end of 2003. This will require the construction of some 8,000 to 1,000 stations.
Mikael Elséus, vice president of Telia and Tele2´s joint venture infrastructure firm, says there should be no problem in meeting the PTS deadline.
