Whatever influences that occur are a part of the environment. Positive influences help to counteract bad, and a multiplicity of influences increases choice. That is why I would like inner city schools to become safe havens, for example, giving children an opportunity to stay and do their homework, with assistance; providing constructive activities when homework is finished; and generally creating an orderly environment with caring supervision in the after- school hours, before suppertime.
