Exodus has no chance, Frank. If the Internet had turn to be what many proponents were forecasting, then it would have been a huge company in that future scenario.

But the new economy had a different turn. You know my interpretation: The incumbents had a too strong leverage to let technology and capital achieve what was possible. Incumbents didn't have to block the whole thing to stop that turn of events: At relative little cost they just block access. Squeeze CLECs to death and nothing happened.

They did like workers used to strike in Germany: Don't stop all car factories. Just a few components makers and the whole autoindustry come to a halt!

Of course the world didn't stop after that. We are now at the very beginning of the realization -not of what next next generation types forecast- but a scenario which accommodate the interests of the ILECs. And this one is being realized.

It will be as big as the scenario of the new economy. Only that it will realized at a time ILECs have written off all that iron plus software in place. Technological obsolescence works its way and by about 2005, slowly the telecoms infrastructure will be scrapped.

Of course no one wanted CSCO or MSFT and Exodus to be the kings of the hill! It must DT, FT, TIM, BT, KPN, SBC, and ERICY, NOK, NEC. Siemens. NT and LU.

And so its going to be.
