Internet drying up! Not a chance!
<<Right here, there are a couple of thousand boards that are not being replenished with new ideas, daily.>>

Elmat: The ideas are still on the same level. Only the noise is gone, Frank! Quality is better than quantity.

<<The other halls that I often visit at this time of the morning, they are all ghost towns, too! Zero posts. Zippo. No Posts. In effect, empty cyberspace.>>

People didn't stop thinking, Frank. They are having ideas and interpretating the events, evaluating news facts. looking to old facts under new perspectives, turning things around 180 degrees and having a hard look at the. And stepping back a bit to have a better perspective. You know, the usual stuff information refiners do.

Only now -all those 0.01%- have not yet come public to cross-pollinate those ideas. In the present environment: (Note please my posting about nationalism exacerbated) people don't want to be accused of treason just by telling what they think.

(This give me an advantage: There is not too much noise above which I need to shout!)

<<Are people shriveling up into their private parts?>>
Not me. I can go out and say the US has peaked is in for a rough ride. And -mind you- there is a lot of people out there that would love to see the US in the floor.
And this is not me this is Paul Kennedy in "The Rise and Fall of Great Powers"

<<The combined effects of the alleged economic downturn and September 11th, combined, I suppose, could be viewed as the reason for this.>>
Yes it is. If every time 3.700 people died we had to stop the world, we would be leaving in caves pretty soon.

<<But I think it goes beyond that. Actually, the latter two factors would normally be viewed as stimuli, if anything, and not inhibitors.>>
That's it! I'm have never been so stimulated as in the last couple of months. If your brain works when the world is falling around you and the pieces are flying around your ears, you win.

<<I just took a glance over in the "new subjects" pull down section here in SI. It states that there have been seven (7) new subjects created in the past three days. However, if you view the dates of origin in those threads you find that they extend four or five days back into the past.>>
Yeah, People should come out and open new subjects like ADSL IS DEAD. I thought a lot before creating it. When I created, people didn't touch it -except ZO- with a ten-feet stick. No one wanted to have his name associated with the ADSL IS DEAD Thread. But we discussed it on LMT. And we have had a nice time with ADSL IS DEAD Thread. And we didn't become enemies or SI had to intervene. So ADSL is RIP and life goes on.

<<What's happening here?, and elsewhere? We insomniacs would like to know.>>
ITS IS HAPPENING A LOT, Frank! Under this quiet and barren landscape the seeds are germinating. When the tree starts growing, I will not say: Miracle! I may not know how it is gong to be! But that there will be a tree there, oh, that is for sure. I have my go at it. Many people are dying to know how this tree is going to look like!

Dialogue is dormant as folks lick their investment wounds. But content isn't bad (EETIMES, Lightreading, NWFUSION etc) all show that the communications world still is progressing.

Mr Greenspan's liquidity fix should help in about 6 months. In the mean time its sifting through the tech wreck for curiousity's sake. There is a lot going in technology. Chips, BUS, and access speeds are rising, prices are falling, and the metro constipation is being slowing relieved. Why I even heard some optimistic tones from some one with a big long haul provider. OC 192 components are becoming realistically priced and increasingly available (and just what is that Kalkovan up to anyway).

As you have pointed out on GTR, there has been much discussion and headway made on standards and physical interfaces (boring stuff to the quick fix investors and those that thirst for rocket science).

I think we just need some provocative bait to lure people back to the boards.
