I think Witte had bad judgement in geology, milling and labour relations. She did not optimize the mine and paid the help far too much. There were better ways to do it. She was heavy handed in busting the union who were admittedly dangerous and arrogant. She needed to be far more careful as the history has always shown they are a dangerous lot. She failed with a lot of low grade enterprises and when she had good economics in Ontario, she turned her back on it and went with the government come-on in BC, which finished her. I will admit one thing, the Feds are anti-mining and have worked against gold and mining in general in Canada. They are anti smokestack in a knee jerk way and waste a lot of people's time and money with their pollyanna dreams of what makes a good economy. It seems most suits we elect are socialist technocrats who have little balance when it comes to figuring what man's reasonable activities should be and how to control his tendencies to waste and the degree thereof. Its a scientific enterprise not given to easy answers or broad policy which forgives governent waste and punishes industry as a mainstay.
