Gateway CEO Says Consumers' Spending Is More Robust (Update4)

This article is a little old (11/20) but I didn't see it posted here. Also about HP PC sales:

Sales of PCs have been mired in an industrywide slump and were widely expected to get worse after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Last week, though, rival Hewlett-Packard Co. reported a strong surge in October sales to consumers.

And, Gateway is predicting they'll be back in the black before AMD! Must be because of going back to one true blue µP vendor.

The company, based in Poway, California, on Oct. 18 maintained its forecast of a return to profit before taxes in the fourth quarter, excluding some costs, as it introduces services. Analysts are expecting a loss of 1 cent, excluding costs, on revenue of $1.3 billion, according to a poll by Thomson Financial/First Call.
