Let's see, he ran a preflight check which told him that his modem was not compatible. He ignored the warning and installed anyway and is then surprised when things don't work? I'm glad he's not a pilot.

One of my Win98 systems has a BellSouth DSL connection which uses an Alcatel USB modem (a terrible piece of engineering). When I called BellSouth about my plan to replace the system with a new one running XP they told me that the USB modem wouldn't work because their software didn't support XP and shipped me an ethernet-based DSL modem to replace it.
