From the don't confuse me with the facts file - I'd have to say that I agree with you that the driver of biotech stocks is not going to the turgid, if thoroughgoing analysis as epitomized by the Wharton piece, but rather by the "animal spirits" of the market. My tendency is to over-analyze the industries I study, and tie myself up in knots with all the "on the other hand" intelligence I collect. A simpler method, like trend following and chart reading is probably the best way to approach biotech. I believe this is close to what you are suggesting. Minding Mr. Market, as it were.
