I do, however, believe it is unrealistic to expect we will reach 280 million people at the level you've ascribed any time soon. It may take another century, or more, for those concepts to reach everyone. I don't wish to surgar-coat, or ignore the event in North Carolina. I would simply wonder how many beautiful acts of kindness, compassion, and love, have happened toward those same people during this time of citizen stress. We are under attack, both from within our own borders, and from outside. And it's remarkable to me, how few of these kind of attitudes I've seen displayed by my fellow countrymen. The media is great at using one or two events on a personal level, then painting a large brush of ugliness which surrounds us all. For every ugly act, there are probably 100 events which paint just the opposite picture of life in North Carolina toward people of middle eastern decent, but we aren't likely to see those in the media. Especially, from the routinely negative Washington Post. In regard to the fear illegal immigrants must live with now when attempting to access jobs, drivers licences and such, as outlined in the article. I say that fear should have been present all along. If you're in America illegally, you should be deported. And go through the effort to become a citizen legally. That effort, might give you a better appreciation of what it means to be a citizen of the worlds only superpower, and leading Republic democracy. Citizenship is not a right (except to those born here), it's a privilege, and one far too many illegal immigrants don't appreciate. Additionally, I would surmise the vision you have of America will never be achieved if we continue our present low-level of public school performance. Schools in poor areas of America are breeding ignorance. And with the monopolistic grip the teachers union has on our government schools, it's not likely to change any time soon. Having said that, the entrepreneurial spirit of America is alive and well, and the environment which brought forth the internet, and stimulated so much of the world to struggle toward democracy, liberty and free speech, will likely to flourish for some time to come.
